To pay the $20 (regular) permit fee by cheque or credit card you must use the burning permit reference number as the account reference. The fee paid by cheque, for the Burning Permit can also be sent to the District of Lake Country by regular mail or left in the drop box at the front entrance to Municipal Hall. Permit holders also can pay by credit card online through the Option Pay third party secure credit card transaction service. NOTE: the burning permit reference number must be noted with the payment. The Burning Permit does NOT become valid until the payment is processed.
By submitting this Notification of Open Burning, you confirm:
“Open Burning” means the combustion or burning of any substance in the open air by any means but shall not include:
“Prohibited materials” means those materials listed in Schedule A of the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation enacted pursuant to the Waste Management Act as amended from time to time.
The Fire Chief or Bylaw Enforcement Officer may withhold, suspend or cancel any burning where that burning creates a hazard or nuisance to persons or property and the Fire Chief or Bylaw Enforcement Officer may order the extinguishment of any fire that causes a hazard or nuisance.
Effective September 15, 2019, the Province put into effect a new Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation. Open Burning is subject to the conditions set out within this new regulation, in addition to District of Lake Country Burning Bylaw 612, 2007. This Notification of Open Burning provides only for the conditions of local bylaw and does not ensure or suggest compliance with the new Provincial regulation. Inspections by Lake Country Fire Department staff will be for the purposes of compliance with Burning Bylaw 612, 2007. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to ensure compliance with the Provincial regulation. Any noncompliance with the Provincial regulation may be subject to enforcement by the Province.
Note: Open burning starts not earlier than 1 hour after sunrise and ends by 4pm or two hours before sunset, whichever is later, on the same day as open burning starts.
